Land Invasion

A third-person shooter inspired by Starship Troopers and Helldivers, where players must fight off relentless alien hordes and reclaim the land. Currently in Alpha, with ongoing development towards a full release and future multiplayer co-op mode.

My Role: Senior Game Designer

As Senior Designer, I led the design of weapons, maps, enemies, and progression systems, ensuring an engaging gameplay loop. My key responsibilities included:

  • Weapon Design & Balancing: Designed and balanced various weapons (with more in development), tuning fire rate, reload time, damage output, and overall feel to ensure satisfying combat.

  • Enemy AI & Mission Design: Developed enemy behaviors to create challenging but fair combat encounters, ensuring different enemy types require unique strategies to defeat, with some of them even aiding the player if tackled correctly.

  • Special Currency & Reward System: Designed a mission-based economy, where players earn a weekly-capped special currency to spend in a limited-stock shop. Players must strategically choose their rewards, influencing their progression and future loadouts.

Challenges & Ongoing Development

The biggest challenge is polishing the core gameplay while working within platform limitations. Unlike other titles I’ve been working on, Land Invasion uses the standard The Nemesis controller, which means gameplay must be adapted to ensure fluid movement and shooting mechanics with what we already have. This design choice supports future user-generated levels, because users will be able to replicate this experience in their own Lands, building their own levels, so the whole development requires flexibility in mechanics while maintaining a solid shooter experience.

Tools & Software Used

  • Unity (Game Engine, weapon/enemy balancing, mission system)

Outcome & Future Updates

Currently in Alpha, Land Invasion is shaping up to be a fast-paced, strategic shooter with deep customization of weapons and buffs, using the pre-existing card system already present in The Nemesis. Upcoming development focuses on polishing movement and combat, optimizing weapon variety, and laying the groundwork for co-op multiplayer.
